When Beth started having memory issues, her daughter Karin knew they needed to find a community where her mom’s care needs could change—but her home didn’t have to.  She was looking for a place that could support Beth through every stage ahead while still feeling warm, familiar, and reassuring.  Above all, Karin wanted her mom to feel truly at home, surrounded by care designed to adapt with her.

Discovering Her Perfect Fit

When Karin and Beth toured Marjorie P. Lee (MPL), they immediately noticed its warm, welcoming atmosphere.  What stood out most was that MPL offered compassionate, personalized care that could adapt to Beth’s needs at every stage, all in one location.

"We wanted to be in a place that mom would be able to get increasing levels of care without having to move out of the building," Karin explained. "And for me, that was a really big advantage of Marjorie P. Lee."  For Beth, the decision felt just as clear.  Reflecting on the decision to move to MPL, she smiled and said, “It was like a slam dunk.”

The ability to stay in one community, even as care needs evolve, means Beth won't have to uproot herself and leave the home she loves.  She can build relationships with staff who truly know her and settle into routines that bring comfort—knowing MPL can support her through every stage.

For Beth, relocating from Connecticut to Cincinnati meant being closer to Karin and her family in a warm, welcoming community.  MPL, located in the heart of Hyde Park, provided exactly that.

"It felt homey, it didn't feel clinical," Karin recalled.  "That really helped mom feel more comfortable making the decision to move out here."

A New Home in a Welcoming Community

From the moment Beth arrived at MPL, she felt a sense of belonging.  "We all get along," Beth shared warmly about the other residents.  She loves sharing meals with neighbors and friends, adding, "It's a community.  It really is.  I have to say it's a good community, too."

That sense of community extends beyond the residents, but their families too.  That warm neighborly feel shows up in everyday moments, like Sunday chapel services where Karin and her daughters can join Beth without leaving the campus.

With the full continuum of care offered at MPL, families are given the gift of time.  When the weight of daily caregiving is lifted, they can return to their cherished roles as children, spouses, and grandchildren.  With the clinical care thoughtfully handled by a professional team, families can focus on what truly matters: enjoying their time together.

Award Winning Care Under One Roof

The thoughtful, person-centered care at MPL evolves with residents as their needs change.  Families find it comforting to know that MPL was recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report with a “Best Nursing Home” designation, a sign of MPL’s commitment to excellence across the continuum of care.

Karin is very pleased with the staff at MPL and how they treat Beth like family.  "They've just been really wonderful in helping me understand when it's time for more," Karin shared.  "They are a sense of comfort whenever I see them."

This deep level of attention was especially clear during Beth's care conference, a meeting designed for residents, family members, and staff to connect.  Karin sat down with Beth's dietitian, social worker, physical therapist, and head of nursing, all working together to support her mother.  "In one 45-minute session, I was able to get a full update on how Mom's doing and really recognize that where she needs more help, she can get it right here," Karin recalled.  "And for me, that's huge."

This comprehensive, collaborative approach is possible because specialized memory care, assisted living, skilled nursing, and short-term rehab are all available on one campus, providing reassuring path forward.

Families take comfort in knowing their loved ones won’t face the stress of relocating as their care needs change.  Staying on the same campus provides stability for residents and peace of mind for their families.

Memory Support Therapies

At MPL staying active physically and mentally isn't just encouraged—it's woven into the fabric of daily life.  Beth has found joy in a variety of activities that challenge her mind, engage her interests, and give her something to look forward to each week.

One program that has made a significant impact is MindFit, a cognitive wellness program designed to support brain health and social connection in a comfortable, welcoming environment.  Beth appreciates that it provides a space where residents can talk openly about memory loss and dementia, without judgment or discomfort.

In addition to MindFit, MPL’s memory care community offers a suite of memory support therapies.  Residents can participate in research-based memory support programs, such as SAIDO Learning®, which utilizes simple reading and mathematics to enhance brain health.  Various wellness classes help engage the mind, body, and spirit, aiming to improve quality of life.  Programs are designed so that residents like Beth receive care that grows with them, honoring their preferences and abilities throughout every stage of life.

Beth particularly likes the horticulture class led by Robert Evans who encourages residents to get outside and "dig in the dirt," a practice that can be highly beneficial for those living with Alzheimer's or dementia.  Beth excitedly shared the tips she has learned from Robert, such as planting a few extra seeds to spark more plant growth.  "We're learning something new every time," she said.

From chair yoga to stretching classes, there are opportunities for movement at each level of ability.  "The wellness team here is great," Karin added. "There's something to get you out of your room, and they really do a nice job of applying it to whatever level that you're at."

The Peace of Mind Every Daughter Hopes For

For Karin, knowing her mother, Beth, is engaged and lovingly cared for has lifted a weight from her shoulders.  This peace of mind is rooted in clear, open communication with the MPL team, which keeps Karin connected even when she can't be there in person.

"I couldn't give Mom the care that she needs without the support of Marjorie P. Lee," Karin said.  "The open communication is really big for me. I can't be here frequently, but I'm always in the know of how things are. I can always just call up."

This constant connection makes Karin feel confident and reassured, knowing every detail of her mother’s well-being is tended to with compassion. Beth feels that peace, too.  "You don't have to worry as much," she shared.

See the Difference for Yourself

Karin offers simple advice to families considering memory care or assisted living: “come see it.”

"When you walk through the halls, you really get a sense that it feels like home," Karin shared.  "It’s cozy, not clinical, and it doesn’t feel like a hospital."

One thing stood out to her right of way—the happiness of the staff.  "For me, it was the staff. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be here, and that felt like a great sign," she added.

For individuals and families facing memory loss, finding a supportive community that adapts to your loved one’s needs can bring peace of mind for the whole family.  At MPL, Beth has found a place where she’s valued, cared for, and truly at home—a community where her care needs can change, but her home doesn’t have to.
