All ERS team members, not just at Deupree House but also at other ERS flagship communities, strive to ensure our residents feel like they're being cared for not by expert professionals but by people who seem like family. One way we accomplish this goal is by creating opportunities for residents to build close relationships with staff. What you may not realize is that this process starts long before move-in day, with unique events designed to show seniors what our community is all about.
Lunch & Learn, for example, occurs a few times a year and gives individuals who are interested in living at Deupree House a chance to learn what role that different staff members will play in their care—all over a delicious lunch. Guests literally get a taste of what it is like being a Deupree resident. The event also gives interested parties a chance to ask questions and learn more about what it’s like to live at a continuing care retirement community.
Deupree has a robust calendar of events to highlight the services, ammenties, and lifestyle offered at Deupree House.
Karen Immell, Community Relations Director
Karen Immell has been the Community Relations Director at Deupree House for three years. Before that, she also worked at our sister community, Majorie P. Lee, for 10 years.
Having a history at ERS herself, Karen using the Lunch & Learn event to share with attendees about our senior living community’s unique history. For example, did you know that in 1982 Deupree House used to be a single apartment building with residents that were active, social and independent? Our organization purchased it and eventually added the dining room, indoor pool, fitness equipment area, chapel and public gathering spaces. In 2006, with a waiting list for entrance, we constructed 60 more apartments in our second building.
Two years later, Deupree Cottages was added to our campus. The Cottages are two small nursing care households accommodating 24 residents and were built to look, feel and run like any home any of us would have. Now, approximately 200 residents live at Deupree, and our continuing care retirement community continues to be one of Cincinnati’s premier residents for older adults offering services, amenities, and living options that make retirement living enjoyable and carefree.
Emerson Stambaugh, Director of Hospitality
Emerson Stambaugh is Deupree House's Director of Hospitality. He is excited to be celebrating his 25th anniversary with Episcopal Retirement Services this year! Over the years, Emerson has held several different roles at ERS including Director of Dining Services and Health Services Administrator. His current role is to manage the hotel functions of Deupree House and our sister campus Marjorie P. Lee. This includes Dining Services, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Transportation, Security, and Groundskeeping. Emerson says his work allows him to stay in direct contact with residents and have meaningful relationships, which happens to be his favorite part of the job.
“I have had the privilege to help our residents live their best life,” Emerson explains. Serving others in their time of need is a personal mission. In addition, I have had the opportunity to work with and support my fellow staff on their journey with ERS. It may sounds cliché, but we really are a big family!”
When not at work, Emerson loves to get lost in a good book or take a long walk with his dog.
Chloe Hough, Wellness Director
Chloe Hough is the Wellness Director at Deupree House and has served at ERS since August 2019.
During Lunch & Learn events, Chloe strives to let everyone know about all the great activities happening at Deupree House. “We offer a variety of wellness programming,” she explains, “from group exercise to aquatic exercise to personal training to massage therapy! Our wellness programs are fun and designed to help keep our residents active and involved. We also welcome all fitness levels.”
Anna Honerlaw, Director of Life Enrichment
Anna Honerlaw is our Director of Life Enrichment. While she is new to this position, she has served Deupree House and ERS in other roles for 16 years!
Anna is married to her high school sweetheart and has two children. As for her background, she originally studied special education but changed her major to communications and sociology after getting a job at Deupree House when she was 18 and falling in love with our residents and the senior care industry. "The residents here have seen me graduate college, get engaged, get married, and have kids," Anna says. "They are family to me."
At Lunch and Learn events, Anna lets people know all the ways she and the Deupree House team enrich the daily lives of our residents "A big passion I have is to help connect people together," she explains. "I love to see the spark of excitement that ignites when they realize they have others who are interested in the same thing that they are. I love to hear ideas of activities from residents and staff. I don’t want our residents to be shut into their apartments…especially during a pandemic. It can get lonely and depressing very quickly. I am willing to try anything that may interest someone because another person may decide they are interested in the same thing. It is never too late in life to find a new a new hobby!"
