What Residents Love About Deupree House

Choosing an independent living community is about more than comparing floor plans or amenities. It’s about finding a place that feels like home. While brochures can tell you what’s offered, the people who live there can tell you what life is really like.

Ask Deupree House residents what they love most, and you’ll hear about great food, meaningful friendships, opportunities to stay active, and a community where neighbors genuinely care.

Meals Worth Looking Forward To

For many residents, sharing a great meal is one of the highlights of the day.

“I have a very, very serious problem with the dining room here,” laughs Deupree House resident Nancy Schpatz. “And that is—they serve such good food that I can’t stay away from it!”

Whether residents are enjoying an elegant dinner in the dining room or meeting friends for a casual lunch at Grille 39, dining at Deupree House is about much more than convenience.

Enjoy a glass of wine with your multi-course meal, starting with a delicious soup or another appetizer. You’ll find a choice of several entrees, such as lamb shank with demi-glace or chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto and fontina and drizzled with sun-dried tomato sauce.

Nancy says the food is spectacular, but thoughtful service provided by the dining team is what makes the experience so special.

“They know how to lead from the left, remove from the right—all those things that we as older people are especially cognizant of,” Nancy said.

When you’re in the mood for a more casual dining experience, Grille 39 is there, serving up fresh, fun entree choices including “build your own” pasta, along with burgers, salads, sandwiches, and pizzas.

The freshly prepared meals, seasonal menus, and attentive service all create opportunities to gather, catch up with neighbors, and enjoy time together.

Friendships Come Naturally

Deupree House residents can’t be blamed for bragging a bit about their neighbors, especially when it comes to how welcoming everyone is.

“It’s very easy to make friends here,” said Kaki McClanahan, who lives at Deupree House with her husband, Don. “There are so many interesting people—and they’re not only interesting, but they’re welcoming.”

Don agrees.

“When you move in here, you suddenly become family. Everybody looks out for everybody else, no matter what.”

Whether it’s morning coffee with neighbors, a movie at the onsite cinema, a bridge game, Bible study, or a community outing, there are countless ways to connect with others.

Residents can stay as busy as they’d like while discovering new interests and building lasting friendships along the way.

Stay Active, Your Way

Wellness looks different for everyone, which is why Deupree House offers opportunities to stay active that fit each resident’s lifestyle.

Some residents enjoy water aerobics, yoga, balance classes, or fitness programs, while others prefer a peaceful walk through the beautifully landscaped grounds or spending time tending to their garden plot. For those who prefer exercising from their apartments, select fitness classes are also available virtually.

Beyond exercise, residents appreciate knowing support for their physical well-being is close by when they need it. An on-site nurse, a 24-hour emergency response system, and access to additional health services provide added peace of mind without getting in the way of an independent lifestyle.

And because feeling your best often includes looking your best, salon services for both men and women make it easy to enjoy a fresh haircut, manicure, or other personal care services right on campus.

A Community That Feels Like Family

While beautiful spaces, engaging activities, and convenient service all contribute to life at Deupree House, residents say it’s the people who make the biggest difference.

Linda Callard appreciates the attentiveness and dedication of the staff.

“They always respond. That’s the type of place it is. It’s a gentle place,” she noted. “They give you privacy and respect you as a person, Linda said. “I am a happy camper!”

It’s that combination of independence, support, and genuine connection that makes Deupree House feel like home.
