Happy New Year, Louisville! My oh my, where did 2017 go? We're looking forward to another great year here at Episcopal Church Home, and we're starting off with a month packed full of activities for our residents to enjoy.

Here's everything that's going on in January at Louisville's premier personal care and memory care community:

January Events

Wednesday, Jan. 3

11:15 a.m.

Worship service. This morning, in St. Luke's Chapel, we'll hold a special service to ask for healing.

2:30 p.m.

Bingo. We're playing bingo this afternoon in Gheens Towne Hall. Grab your lucky rabbit's foot and favorite marker, and come play with us!

3:30 p.m.

Story time. We'll listen to "Winter Stories" this afternoon in the Marmion Household.

7 p.m.

Wheel of Fortune viewing. Would you like to solve? Our ECH Wheel Watchers club meets at 7 p.m. every evening in the Neighborhood Living Room.

 

Thursday, Jan. 4

10:15 a.m.

Exercise class. We're limbering up and staying in shape this morning in Gheens Towne Hall.

3:30 p.m.

Happy hour concert. Misha Feigin performs on the piano for us in the Gheens Towne Hall this afternoon. Come listen and enjoy some wine and cheese.

 

Friday, Jan. 5

10 a.m.

Bingocize. Like bingo? Like exercise? Here’s your chance to do both! Join us in Gheens Towne Hall on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 am for Bingocize!

10:15 a.m.

Coffee hour. Come grab a cup of joe and a donut in the Clingman Neighborhood this morning.

3:30 p.m.

Concert. This afternoon, Don Watson will perform on the guitar for us in the Gheens Towne Hall.

 

Saturday, Jan. 6

11 a.m.

Music therapy. We'll host "Strumming Guitar with Marie" this morning in the Marmion Household.

7 p.m.

Movie night. Hold on, the holidays aren't quite over yet! Tonight, in the Woodcock Household, our classic movie feature will be Warner Brothers' 1945 screwball comedy Christmas in Connecticut, starring Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan and Sidney Greenstreet.

 

Sunday, Jan. 7

10:30 a.m.

Worship service. Join us in St. Luke’s Chapel for our weekly devotions. This week's service will feature a children's choir.

 

Monday, Jan. 8

10:45 a.m.

Trivia games. Think you know it all? Come find out this morning in Gheens Towne Hall! We'll be playing trivia with our ECH neighbors.

3 p.m.

Movie matinee. This afternoon, in the Clingman Household, we'll watch the 1995 romantic comedy While You Were Sleeping, starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman.

3:30 p.m.

Tea party. One lump or two, missus? We're having a spot of tea and pasties this afternoon in the Marmion Household.

 

Tuesday, Jan. 9

10:30 a.m.

Book club. Our Dudley Square book club meets this morning in the Parlor.

3:30 p.m.

Concert. This afternoon in the Gheens Towne Hall, we'll enjoy a guitar performance by Warren Row. Come lend an ear!

 

Wednesday, Jan. 10

10:15 a.m.

Gentle yoga. Stiff joints? Need to limber up? Want to exercise your body and your mind? On Wednesday mornings, we host gentle yoga instruction in Gheens Towne Hall.

3 p.m.

Literary salon. The "No Name Book Club" will meet this afternoon in the Board Room.

3:30-5:30 p.m.

Happy hour. Our weekly Wednesday cocktail party is a wonderful place to meet your ECH neighbors and make new friends! Come join us in the Gheens Towne Hall.

 

Thursday, Jan. 11

10 a.m.

Bookmobile visit. The Bookmobile folks return to ECH today. Come to the Green Room and find a new favorite read!

10:15 a.m.

Exercise. Come to Gheens Towne Hall and get fit with us!

11 a.m.

Concert. Steve Corbett will perform piano pieces for us this morning in the Morton Household.

3:30 p.m.

Happy hour concert. Nada Loutfi returns to perform for us in the Gheens Towne Hall this afternoon, where we’ll also enjoy wine and cheese.

 

Friday, Jan. 12

10 a.m.

Fitness activity. Come to the Marmion Household this morning for "Roll & Stroll."

2 p.m.

Card game. This afternoon, we’ll enjoy a few rounds of bridge in the Parlor.

4 p.m.

Hot chocolate. We'll enjoy some mocha and white mocha magic in the Clingman Household this afternoon.

 

Saturday, Jan. 13

2:30 p.m.

Bingo. Join parishioner volunteers from St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, who will be here this afternoon to visit and play bingo with us in the Gheens Towne Hall.

7 p.m.

Movie night. This evening, in the Woodcock neighborhood, our classic movie feature will be the 1947 fantasy comedy The Bishop's Wife, starring Cary Grant, Lorette Young and David Niven.

 

Monday, Jan. 15

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Episcopal Church Home and Episcopal Retirement Services recognize Dr. King's important legacy of promoting civic dialogue and healing, and fighting for equality for all Americans.

10:30 a.m.

Creative writing group. Come to the Green Room and participate in our weekly “Feet to the Fire” creative writing circle. Share your poems, short fiction and memoir essays.

 

Tuesday, Jan. 16

10:15 a.m.

Exercise class. Let’s get moving, ECH! Come down to the Gheens Towne Hall this morning for Movement Class with Tim Kelty.

10:30 a.m.

Therapy dog visits. Would seeing a furry, friendly face brighten your day? Does petting a pooch always brighten your mood? Our canine volunteer, Mercy, visits ECH this and every Tuesday morning, so keep a lookout!

3:30 p.m.

Concert. Come to Gheens Towne Hall for an exceptional performance by Bob Holt & the Prime Time Band!

 

Wednesday, Jan. 17

2:30 p.m.

Bingo. Feeling lucky today? Come join us in Gheens Towne Hall for some bingo.

3:30 p.m.

Coffee hour. Join us in the Marmion Household this afternoon for coffee and relaxing conversation.

7:30 p.m.

Family support group. Our monthly caregiver support group meeting will take place this evening in the Parlor.

 

Thursday, Jan. 18

10:45 a.m.

Game-based memory therapy. Join us in Gheens Towne Hall today for "Alphabetics."

1 p.m.

Worship booklet ministry. This takes place every Thursday afternoon in St. Luke's Chapel.

3:30 p.m.

Happy hour and live music. Trio Louisville returns to ECH today to perform for us in the Gheens Towne Hall, where we'll enjoy a wine and cheese happy hour.

 

Friday, Jan. 19

10:15 a.m.

Breakfast. We're having morning muffins in the Clingman Household this afternoon.

3 p.m.

Shabbos visits. The rabbi will be here this afternoon to visit with our Jewish residents.

3:30 p.m.

Tea party and visit. A local troop of Girl Scouts will visit us this afternoon and serve tea in the Gheens Towne Hall.

 

Saturday, Jan. 20

10:30 a.m.

Music therapy. Come to the Marmion Household this morning for "Strumming Guitar with Marie."

3:30 p.m.

Concert. The oldies will be roaring when David Hunt plays for us today in the Clingman Household.

7 p.m.

Movie night. This evening, our Woodcock Household movie feature is director John Hughes' hilarious 1987 comedy, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, starring Steve Martin and John Candy.

 

Sunday, Jan. 21

4 p.m.

Concert. Tyrone Cotton returns to play the blues for us this afternoon in the Marmion Household.

 

Monday, Jan. 22

3:30 p.m.

Trivia game. This afternoon, we'll play "Timeless Trivia" in the Clingman Household.

Waffles social. Who said breakfast is just for mornings? If you're in the Marmion neighborhood this afternoon, pop in for a waffle snack with us!

 

Tuesday, Jan. 23

10:30 a.m.

Dog visits with Mercy. Need some cuddle and play time with a furry friend? Our service dog volunteer, Mercy, visits every Tuesday.

3:30 p.m.

Crafting. We're making winter crafts this afternoon in the Clingman Household.

6:30 p.m.

City Council meeting. The Graymoor-Devondale City Council meets this evening in Gheens Towne Hall.

 

Wednesday, Jan. 24

11:15 a.m.

Communion. Our Holy Eucharist service takes place every Wednesday morning in St. Luke's Chapel.

3:30 p.m.

Concert. Come to Gheens Towne Hall this afternoon for "Music Time with Doug Pinson."

 

Thursday, Jan. 25

10:45 a.m.

Game-based memory therapy. This morning, in Gheens Towne Hall, we'll be on a "Brain Quest." Come join us!

3 p.m.

Lecture. Our Therapy Education Series resumes this afternoon in the Parlor.

3:30 p.m.

Happy hour concert. This afternoon, we'll enjoy Clarese Fuller's beautiful piano playing, and wine and cheese!

Chili cook-off. We're spicing things up in Gheens Towne Hall this morning.

 

Saturday, Jan. 27

3:30 p.m.

Concert. Tyrone Cotton will be playing the blues for us this afternoon in the Marmion Household.

7 p.m.

Movie night. Our classic movie feature this evening will be the 1937 mystery Night Must Fall, starring Merle Tottenham, Kathleen Harrison, Rosalind Russell and May Whitty. Come watch with us in the Woodcock Household.

 

Sunday, Jan. 28

11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Brunch. We'll hold a special Sunday brunch today in Canterbury Court.

3 p.m.

Recital. This afternoon, Nada Loutfi will play an hour of classical piano pieces for us in the Parlor.

 

Monday, Jan. 29

2:30 p.m.

Concert. The Silvernotes will entertain us this afternoon in Gheens Towne Hall.

3:30 p.m.

Resident Council meeting. Our monthly ECH Resident Council meeting takes place this afternoon in Gheens Towne Hall. Come listen and stay abreast of everything happening here at our beautiful Louisville retirement community.

 

Tuesday, Jan. 30

3:30 p.m.

Hot chocolate social. We'll be enjoying cocoa and cookies this afternoon in the Morton Household.

 

Wednesday, Jan. 31

2:30 p.m.

Bingo. It's our final bingo game in January! Come play with us for fun and prizes in Gheens Towne Hall.
