Happy holidays, Kentucky and Indiana seniors! We're so excited to be approaching the end of another great year here at Louisville's Episcopal Church Home.

We've planned a wonderful month full of festive events for our elders to enjoy. Here's the "Run, Run, Rudolph"-down on everything that's going on in December here at ECH.

 

December Events

Thursday, Dec. 7

10:45 a.m.

Game. Can you name the "Famous Faces?” Come to Gheens Towne Hall this morning and play with us!

3:30 a.m.

Christmas party. Woodcock, Clingman and West household residents, come join the Rascals of Ragtyme for Christmas music and fun!

 

Friday, Dec. 8

2 p.m.

Card game. This afternoon, we’ll enjoy a few rounds of bridge in the Parlor.

Concert. The MacDowell Music Club and Ballard High School Madrigal Choir perform for us in St. Luke's Chapel.

3:30 p.m.

Christmas party. Our Christmas party for the Morton, Marmion and Reed households takes place today in Gheens Towne Hall.

 

Saturday, Dec. 9

10 a.m.

Literary salon. Come to the Green Room for our biweekly ECH Book Club, led by Dr. Mary Greenlee.

7 p.m.

Movie night. Tonight, in the Woodcock neighborhood, we’ll watch Kentucky's own Rosemary Clooney, co-starring with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen, in the 1954 holiday musical classic, White Christmas.

 

Sunday, Dec. 10

10:30 a.m.

Worship service. Join us in St. Luke’s Chapel for our weekly devotions.

 

Monday, Dec. 11

10:15 a.m.

Coffee and donuts. Get your morning cup o' joe and a pastry in the Clingman Household.

10:30 a.m.

Creative writing group. Come to the Green Room and participate in our weekly “Feet to the Fire” creative writing circle. Share your poems, short fiction and memoir essays.

2:30 p.m.

Bingo. We're playing in Gheens Towne Hall this afternoon. Grab your marker and your lucky rabbit's foot and come on down!

 

Tuesday, Dec. 12

10 a.m.

Bingocize. Like bingo? Like exercise? Here’s your chance to do both! Join us in Gheens Towne Hall on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 am for Bingocize!

10:30 a.m.

Book club. Our Dudley Square book club meets this morning in the Parlor.

3:30 p.m.

Visits with Santa. The Jolly Old Elf himself will be in the Rotunda this afternoon to visit with ECH residents, their family and friends. Bring your grandchildren and get your picture together with Santa! We'll also be making ornaments, Christmas cookies and "reindeer food," and we'll enjoy a special Christmas reading.

7 p.m.

Bing Crosby Christmas Radio Show. Want to re-live the holiday radio magic of yesteryear? Tonight, in the Gheens Towne Hall, we'll gather to listen in to a classic Bing Crosby holiday special!

 

Wednesday, Dec. 13

10:30 a.m.

Concert. In the Gheens Towne Hall this morning, we'll enjoy "Music for the Soul" by Jennette Crosswait.

3 p.m.

Literary salon. The "No Name Book Club" will meet this afternoon in the Board Room.

3:30 p.m.

Concert. Don Watson will be playing guitar for us this afternoon in Gheens Towne Hall.

7 p.m.

Concert. The St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Bell Choir will regale us with the clarion sound of hand bells this evening in the Gheens Towne Hall.

 

Thursday, Dec. 14

10 a.m.

Bookmobile visit. The Bookmobile folks return to ECH today. Come to the Green Room and find a new favorite read!

10:15 a.m.

Exercise and trivia. Come to Gheens Towne Hall and get fit with us — body and mind!

3:30 p.m.

Happy hour concert. Nada Loutfi returns to perform for us in the Gheens Towne Hall this afternoon, where we’ll also enjoy wine and cheese.

7 p.m.

Concert. The Cantor Club from Our Lady of Lourdes will sing for us this evening in Gheens Towne Hall.

 

Friday, Dec. 15

3:30 p.m.

Concert. Steven Pate sings the oldies for us this afternoon in Gheens Towne Hall.

 

Saturday, Dec. 16

10:30 a.m.

Music therapy. Come to the Marmion Household this morning for "Strumming Guitar with Marie."

3:30 p.m.

Concert. The oldies will be roaring when David Hunt plays for us today in the Marmion Household.

7 p.m.

Movie night. This evening, in the Woodcock neighborhood, we'll check in old Ebenezer Scrooge when we watch Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

 

Sunday, Dec. 17

3:30 p.m.

Concert. Tyrone Cotton returns to the Clingman neighborhood today to play us the blues.

 

Monday, Dec. 18

2 p.m.

Hanukkah celebration. Tonight is the seventh night of Hanukkah! Join us this afternoon in GheensHanukkah.jpg Towne Hall for Cantor Lipp's special Hanukkah program.

7 p.m.

Holiday show. The Whitings will perform their holiday show us this evening in Gheens Towne Hall.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 19

10:15 a.m.

Exercise class. Let’s get moving, ECH! Come down to the Gheens Towne Hall this morning for Movement Class with Tim Kelty.

10:30 a.m.

Therapy dog visits. Would seeing a furry, friendly face brighten your day? Does petting a pooch always brighten your mood? Our canine volunteer, Mercy, visits ECH this morning, so keep a lookout!

3:30 p.m.

Concert. Come to Gheens Towne Hall for a special performance by Bob Holt & the Prime Time Band!

 

Wednesday, Dec. 20

10:00 a.m.

Christmas caroling. We'll be singing along to our favorite holiday tunes this morning in the Marmion Household.

10:15 a.m.

Gentle yoga. Stiff joints? Need to limber up? Want to exercise your body and your mind? This morning, we’re hosting gentle yoga instruction in Gheens Towne Hall.

2:30 p.m.

Bingo. Feeling lucky today? Come join us in Gheens Towne Hall for some bingo.

3:30 p.m.

Cookies and hot cocoa. We’ll enjoy a winter pick-me-up treat in the Morton neighborhood today.

7:30 p.m.

Family support group. Our monthly caregiver support group meeting will take place this evening in the Parlor.

 

Thursday, Dec. 21

Winter Solstice

10:45 a.m.

Games. Join us this morning in Gheens Towne Hall, where we'll be playing word games.

2:30 p.m.

Resident Council meeting. The ECH Resident Council's monthly meeting takes place this afternoon in Gheens Towne Hall. Come participate and stay informed on everything that's happening in our retirement community!

3:30 p.m.

Happy hour and live music. Trio Louisville returns to ECH today to perform for us in the Gheens Towne Hall, where we'll enjoy a wine and cheese happy hour!

 

Friday, Dec. 22

11 a.m.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest. Have a really cheesy holiday sweater? Something red, green and garish? So ugly, it's funny? Come show it off in our hilarious annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest in Gheens Towne Hall. There's a $50 prize for the most amusing sweater!

2 p.m.

Holiday game. We're playing "Pass the Gift" in the Woodcock neighborhood this afternoon. Always a game that brings the laughs.

4 p.m.

Christmas worship service. Our holiday service takes place this afternoon in St. Luke's Chapel.

 

Saturday, Dec. 23

7 p.m.

Movie night. We all want the perfect Christmas. Clark Griswold wanted one the most. But that's not quite what he got. Come to the Woodcock neighborhood to watch our holiday movie of the week, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

 

Sunday, Dec. 24

Christmas Eve

10:30 a.m.

Worship service. We'll hold our Christmas Eve service in St. Luke's Chapel this morning.

 

Monday, Dec. 25

Merry Christmas, Episcopal Church Home

3:30-4:30 p.m.

Live music. Sara, our volunteer pianist, will perform for us this afternoon in the Marmion, Clingman and Morton neighborhoods.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 26

10:30 a.m.

Dog visits with Mercy. Need some cuddle and play time with a furry friend? Our service dog volunteer, Mercy, visits every Tuesday.

2:30 p.m.

Movie matinee. This afternoon, in Gheens Towne Hall, we'll take a nostalgic ride on The Polar Express.

 

Wednesday, Dec. 27

3:30-5:30 p.m.

Cocktail hour. Come to our fun ECH meet-and-greet cocktail hour, this week featuring music by the Mueser Music Group, in Gheens Towne Hall!

 

Thursday, Dec. 28

3 p.m.

Lecture. This afternoon, our Therapy Education Series resumes with a discussion on "Staying Connected During the Holidays."

3:30 p.m.

Happy hour and live music. Come to Gheens Towne Hall this afternoon for wine, cheese and Clarese Fuller performing the music of Richard Rogers!

 

Friday, Dec. 29

College basketball game. Whether you're a Cardinal through-and-through, or you bleed Big Blue, you're most welcome to come watch the annual U of L-UK game (or UK-U of L game, depending on your leanings) with us in Gheens Towne Hall. Go Cats . . . er, Cards . . . or GO BOTH!

 

Saturday, Dec. 30

10 a.m.

Literary salon. Our ECH Book Club series, led by Dr. Mary Greenlee, resumes this morning in the Green Room.

7 p.m.

Movie night. Ha ha ha, ho ho ho, and a couple of tra-la-las, our film event tonight is a musical, it is of course The Wizard of Oz; starring Judy Garland, Margaret Hamilton, Frank Morgan and Ray Bolger.

 

Sunday, Dec. 31

New Year's Eve

3 p.m.

Recital. Join us this afternoon in the Parlor for an hour of classical piano music by Nada Loutfi.
