elderly-in-the-fallWith this being Alzheimer’s Awareness month, it’s only fitting that we started off November with two lifelong learning opportunities.

On November 6, Dr. Santa Ono, current University of Cincinnati President, offered an inspiring talk on the books that have influenced his life and sharpened his vision for UC in anticipation of its bicentennial in 2019. Then, on Friday, we had the privilege of attending an exclusive initial screening of “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me”— the documentary which chronicles the legendary singer’s final tour as he was fighting the effects of Alzheimer’s.

And there’s plenty more education and entertainment in store!

The highlight of this program is ten of Doris and Rosemary's most famous songs performed live by Cincinnati Heritage Programs own "big band" singer Delores Raye.

5:30 PM: Tom and Nancy McOwen’s Dinner Train

Back by popular demand, and for those who didn’t get a chance to go in September, we’ve scheduled another dinner with Tom and Nancy McOwen.

There’s Cincinnati Dinner Train and then there’s Tom and Nancy McOwen’s Dinner Train! We all know what it’s like to be on a Cincinnati Dinner Train (or maybe you’ve heard about it). But, not as many have had the chance to experience Tom and Nancy’s rail car with its spectacular dome in the dining area.

We’ll be able to step back into the simpler and less complex times of the late 1940′s and watch beautiful scenery from a wonderful view, all while enjoying a delicious meal.

7:15 PM: Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra

Residents who’ve already had the opportunity to experience the McOwen’s Dinner Train—or who prefer not to eat on the move—can still enjoy a lovely evening. Our shuttle will be available to offer residents transportation to and from Music Hall for the world premiere of André Previn’s Double Concerto for Violin and Cello— featuring world-renown husband and wife duo Jaime Laredo and Sharon Robinson

11:00 AM: Lunch out at Tom + Chee

No, you didn’t read that name wrong. This restaurant's seemingly misspelled name is a play on their specialty—Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese. Yum! Come and build your own sandwich with an endless (and zany) list of options. You can even choose a glazed donut for the bread of your sandwich!
