7:30 PM - Wildlife in Ault Park

Just this past Tuesday we were excited to welcome local artist, Holly Schapker, and local photographer, Pat Osterhaus for a special presentation on how they are able to work together to create masterpieces. Both Holly and Pat enjoy Ault Park so much, they’ve incorporated the park into the art that they love.  If you attended Art in Ault last year, you know just how talented Holly is. It really was an amazing opportunity!

11:15 - New Restaurant

Well, the verdict is in. Deupree House gives a thumbs up to the Meatball Kitchen. We headed to the newly opened restaurant for lunch on Wednesday, and it was great! The Meatball Kitchen focuses on different ways to eat meatballs— on a sandwich, over pasta or even in a salad. They offer beef, turkey, pork, and gluten-free vegetarian meatballs served up in different variations. First you pick your meat, then your sauce, how you want it served, and any sides. It’s definitely a dining experience you need to try at least once!

1:00 PM - Mosaic Vase Workshop

Preparations or the October 2014 Gala are well underway here at Deupree! This Wednesday, residents will be headed to the Art Studio for an afternoon of pre-Gala creativity as we apply clay to glass vases, and then use mosaics and other materials to embellish the vases.

Our very own art instructor, Cheryl Pannabecker, will be helping us create these one-of-a kind masterpieces from unwanted fine china and cast-off pieces of costumer jewelry! The finished products are bound to be gorgeously glamorous—certainly fit to grace Gala tables as glittering centerpieces!

Residents who miss this Wednesday’s workshop can still join in on the fun in our second studio session on June 25!

7:30 PM - The Journey of SAIDO Learning

Join us to view a video documenting the journey of SAIDO Learning in the US. Some of our readers may recall that Marjorie P. Lee began a pilot program offering the breakthrough therapy, SAIDO Learning, to the residents of the Amstein House in February. The goal of SAIDO is not to simply provide care for those with dementia, but to actually reverse or slow the progression of the disease, and thus improve the quality of life for older adults. A brief question and answer session will be held after the viewing.
