At Deupree House, we know that making a move into a retirement community is a big step, so we’re serious about making sure our residents are comfortable with the transition, and with our particular style of senior living, before they join our community.

That’s why we invite potential residents to come experience life at Deupree House before they make a decision.

Want to know what it’s like to live at Deupree? Join us for a day— or night!

We invite interested seniors into our community for a number of different activities—anything from joining the community for a meal to spending a night in one of our guest apartments.

But the most exciting visits have to be our themed events that give potential residents a chance to experience what they can expect from senior living is like with an active social calendar like ours. We have hosted events that have ranged from traditional life enrichment events like Jazz or Blues evenings, wine tastings and lifelong learning opportunities to informational dinners.

Although each event varies in size, we do always try to get at least a few of our residents to sign up for every event so that our guests can hear about what life is like at Deupree first hand, from the people who actually live here.

Typically we try to keep our events on the smaller side (about 10 guests), so that we can answer all the serious questions about senior living. But we have had occasions where we’ve invited 80 different older adults and their families to get a taste of life at Deupree.

There were 12 events on our calendar for 2013—and 2 of them have taken place in the last few weeks.

After every event, we always ask our guests what they enjoyed most about their experience. Though they always talk about how they were delighted by the amazing meals put on by our talented dining staff and enjoyed the entertainment—we’re invariably told that the highlight of the evening was how our guests were able to learn about Deupree House and what we offer.

That’s why we host a biannual informational meal.

The most recent of which was held on Friday, October 11. During the 4 course luncheon, a small group of staff members joined 16 guests from the Greater Cincinnati area to answer questions about life at Deupree.

The afternoon occasion presented an opportunity for these potential residents to experience our 5-star lunch service and learn about the perks and privileges of living at our community that our guests may not have realized they would be eligible for as a resident.

Staff members were on hand to talk our dining facilities (and the kitchen team, too!), nursing care at the Deupree Cottages, our regular life enrichment activities, available assisted living services, and details about our apartments and the move-in experience.

Lunch, which began at noon and lasted until 2:00, was followed by tours of our community and grounds for anyone who was interested.

The second event offered an opportunity for potential residents to experience one of our regular life enrichment events. On the Saturday after our luncheon, 36 guests joined a group of our residents for dinner and a show with comedian Tom Mabe.

We’re looking forward to hosting even more public events next year.

“Our goal for 2014 is to hold 18 community events at Deupree House,” says Karen Christopher, the Community Relations Event Planner in charge of planning all the community events at the different ERH communities.
