From art shows and operas, to dinner excursions, shopping trips and fitness classes, there’s plenty to do in and around town, indoors and out, now that the summer is here.
Let’s take a look at selected events the Episcopal Retirement Services staff has cooked up for our seniors to enjoy in June.

Wednesday, June 1
3 p.m.
Art reception. Meet and greet with Kent Krugh, the artist behind this month’s installment of our rotating exhibit in the Dining Room.
Thursday, June 2
7:30 p.m.
Lecture series. Jack Nebergall presents "Happenings in Our Sky," in the Event Center. This astronomy talk will discuss interesting subjects that have been covered in Science News magazine: black holes, the life and death of stars and the expansion of our universe.
Saturday, June 4
1:45 p.m.
Group outing for a music performance at Church of the Redeemer. Join us as we attend a free benefit concert for Elaine-Leung-Wolf, a UC College Conservatory of Music adjunct piano instructor who is battling liver cancer. Proceeds from donations will help her with medical expenses. Musicians will include UC President Santa Ono, cellist Suzanne Bona, flautist Michael Chertok, pianist Mary Schaffer, the Phil DeGreg Trio and others.

Saturday Cinema series in the Event Center. Tonight we’ll be watching Ron Howard’s 2015 sea thriller In the Heart of the Sea, based on the real-life incident that inspired Melville’s Moby-Dick. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson.
Monday, June 6
Today is the 72nd anniversary of the D-Day landings on the coast of Normandy during WWII. Thank you to our Second World War veterans!

Documentary screening in the Event Center. This afternoon we’ll be watching Earth. Fueled by dazzling high-definition photography and stunning locations around the world, this nature documentary captures the lives of three animal families over the course of a year, showing how the sun influences their behavior and migratory patterns.

Music performance in the Event Center. We welcome pianist Mary Lou Boylan back to Deupree House. Come hear the Queen City Songbirds’ accompanist play your favorite songs from the ‘40s, ‘50s and popular Broadway shows!

Saturday Cinema series in the Event Center. Tonight we’ll be watching the 1983 musical Yentyl, starring Barbra Streisand and Mandy Patinkin.
Sunday, June 12
6 p.m.
Sip and Sup dinner. Our popular fundraiser dinner for Life Enrichment. The menu tonight will feature grilled pork roast, red cabbage, Kugel and Texas sheet cake. Your $5 plate fee is due to Life Enrichment by June 8th. Dinner will take place in the Club Room.

2 p.m.
Documentary screening in the Event Center. This afternoon we’ll be watching How the States Got Their Shapes. Brian Unger hosts this clever road documentary series blending history, politics and geography to show how America's states got their current borders. Each episode focuses on a unique regional history, tracing shifts in U.S. demographics and culture.

Today is Flag Day. Let’s take a minute to learn about and honor Old Glory!

Documentary screening in the Event Center. This afternoon we’ll be watching Scenic Walks of the World. This stunning video scrapbook takes you to some of the most exotic and picturesque sights in the world — in both natural and urban settings — all captured in high definition for a breathtakingly vivid viewpoint. Some of the areas visited include Tongariro National Park in New Zealand, the Eiffel Tower, Pompeii, the Great Wall of China, the Austrian Alps, the Appalachian Trail and Colorado’s Mesa Verde National Park.

Fourth of July celebration in courtyard. The 30-member Ohio Military Band joins us for a rousing and patriotic musical tribute to our nation.

Group excursion and fundraiser. Tonight Episcopal Retirement Services and the 20th Century Theater host “It’s A Wonderful Life,” a cinematically themed fundraising event, benefitting Affordable Living by ERS. It will feature live performances of movie-themed jazz, a photo booth with Elvis, iconic movie clips, cocktail hour, gourmet dinner, a balloon auction and a raffle.

Lecture series. Crayons to Computers volunteer Sarah Westrich present an informative talk about the free school supply store, which serves 16 Tristate counties. Since 1997, C2C has been committed to providing every child with the supplies needed to succeed in school.

Group outing to Matthew 25 Ministries. We’ll tour the facility responsible for helping the poor and disaster victims around the world. This tour will give you tangible examples of the places Matthew 25 Ministries has been able to help through the generous support of its volunteers and donors.
