Prospective residents and their younger family members often ask us what an actual day in the life of a Deupree House resident is like. And we typically encourage them to come in for a visit to our retirement community, so that they can see how rich and rewarding senior living in Cincinnati can be.

Truth be told, we here at Episcopal Retirement Services are happy to showcase the achievements we've made at Deupree House. Although our ministry is to serve our residents humbly, we can do so while still being proud of the residency experience we have become able to provide.

So we love showing seniors and their families around the grounds and helping them to meet our residents — we know that, when they hear about life at Deupree House in our residents' own words — that they'll see why Episcopal Retirement Services is an excellent choice to be their Cincinnati retirement community provider.

But let's move past talk. Let's show you what a day at Deupree House can really be like. See what makes premier senior living different from assisted living.

Here are 4 surprising discoveries you'll make:

1. Meal time is choice time.

Enjoying a meal is as much about ambience and refinement as it is about great-tasting, nutritious food. That's why our dining room is designed with an elegant restaurant experience in mind. Resident diners have a menu full of flexible dining options — all prepared by our Executive Chef — to choose from.

In the morning, enjoy a fresh-baked pastry, a cup of premium brewed coffee and sweet, delicious fruit. In the evening, relax with a glass of wine while deciding whether tonight it will be the chicken parmesan, a hearty soup and salad, or a burger and roasted potatoes, followed by a slice of sugar-dusted, rich red velvet cake.

We strive to bring our senior residents flexibility and choice in their dining, because your golden years should never be lived as a matter of routine. It should be your time for freedom and joy.

2. Our residents don't spend all their time here.

Many of our residents have their own cars and drive themselves, on their own schedules. For those that do not, or who cannot, we're here to help.

We have complimentary shuttle services that you can schedule to take you out and about. Want to go shopping with your friends? We'll take you downtown, to Kenwood Towne Centre, to the nearby Hyde Park Square business district, or wherever in Cincinnati you want to go.

We'll get you out to the movies, to touring Broadway productions at the Aronoff Center, to Cincinnati Art Museum . . . We're here to serve you. Just tell us what you'd like to do, and we'll help you to make it happen.

We also schedule a full calendar of group events — both on- and off-site — so there are plenty of opportunities to get out and about, and to socialize with your peers. From group outings to local restaurants, to exercise classes, lifetime learning opportunities, or even evenings out at the ballpark, there's plenty to do.

3. Your living space is your living space.

You can customize it however you wish. Like to window garden? You can certainly do so, right off your balcony. Is crafting your thing? Why not set up a work area right in your apartment?

You can also have overnight and weekend visitors. Would you like to have the grandkids over for the weekend? No reason why they can't sleep over — and give your son or daughter a break to spend quality time out on their own.

Want to host a dinner party or card night in your apartment? Perfectly OK. Our goal is to support your social life, not to hinder you.

4. We're serious about total wellness.

We have an in-house Fitness Zone, staffed by trained wellness experts. We have an onsite pool, walking paths and extensive landscaped grounds to explore.

We offer group fitness programs and water exercise classes that you can elect to participate in. After your workout, you can enjoy a soothing massage, or relax in our salon.

But over and above the fitness amenities, we have made a firm, lasting commitment to preserving our residents' safety. We have a nurse on site. We have a 24-hour emergency response system.

We'll work with you to make sure you meet your doctor and dentist appointments, to make sure you are getting the medications you need and to assist you with the tasks of daily living, if and when they become difficult to handle alone.

Senior living in Cincinnati can be beautiful.

And we'll do everything we can to ensure it is for you. Schedule your visit today. We think there's no better retirement home than Deupree House in Cincinnati. And we believe you'll feel the same way when you experience it for yourself.
