In the waning days of summer, senior living in Cincinnati is still heating up! Here at Deupree House, we’ve got a full docket of trips, tours, and musical guests on the agenda. Just take a look at some of the highlights from our August events calendar.

Saturday, August 1

10:30 AM: Taft Museum Trip

This morning, we’ll be heading over to the Taft Museum to wander the exhibits before grabbing lunch (or a glass of wine) at Taft’s Café and heading to the garden terrace to enjoy the beautiful sounds of summer with a free concert by John Ford. 

Tuesday, August 4

7:30 PM: Cultural Film Series

The first part of our cultural film series, From Monet to Van Gogh: A History of Impressionism, on the history of the impressionist movement focuses on the early years of the movement, exploring the lives and work of Claude Monet and his contemporaries.

Wednesday, August 5

10:00 AM: Tour of Cincinnati Architecture and History Experience

On this second part of our architectural bus tour, continuing from last month, our expert guide will take us through the history and spectacular building styles in the rest of Over-the-Rhine, Pendleton, and Eden Park.

Wednesday, August 12

10:00 – 11:00 AM: Seamstress Alterations

Cyndy, from Cyndy’s Alterations will be onsite to provide services.  Residents are able to sign up for a preferred appointment time to have trousers, skirts, and blouses fitted, then pay when the final bill is received. 

Thursday, August 13

4:00 – 5:00 PM: Beach Happy Hour

If you love Pina Coladas, then our beach-themed happy hour is for you!

Before dinner, our dining team will be hosting a beachy cocktail hour featuring Pina Coladas, Strawberry Daiquiris, and wine in the Dining Room lobby.

Friday, August 14

7:30 PM: Cultural Film Series

The second part of our cultural film series, From Monet to Van Gogh: A History of Impressionism, focuses on the life and work of artists like Vincent Van Gogh and others who saw the transition from Impressionism to Post-Impressionism.

Sunday, August 16

6:00 PM: Sip and Sup

Our regular, informative Sip and Sup meeting will feature a menu of salsa with taco cups, sour cream and cheese, grilled chicken kebabs, corn off the cob, cucumber and onion salad, tomatoes with basil, green beans, and a special dessert by Jan Melvin. 

Tuesday, August 18

7:30 PM: Trio de Palha in Concert

This evening, a talented trio of CCM graduate students will be set up in the Events Center for an entertaining night of song. The trio, which includes an American bassist, a Brazilian drummer and pianist, will be playing American songbook standards, as well as some standards from Antonio Carlos Jobim and other bossa nova composers of that era.

Wednesday, August 19

9:00 AM: Trip to Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati

Today our community will have a unique opportunity to visit our local Islamic Center. We’ll be starting with a 30 minute talk where our guide will share a little about the history and beliefs of the Islamic faith. Afterwards, we’ll take a tour of the building and, hopefully, have a better understanding of the Islamic faith and world affairs.

Tuesday, August 25

4:30 PM: Art Gallery Opening

We’re pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibit in the Deupree House art gallery! Mary Ellyn Hutton has been kind enough to share with us her collection of vintage posters. 

Wednesday, August 26

1:00 PM: Trip to Jungle Jim’s

Calling all foodies! Do you need a one stop shopping source for all your food needs?  Our trip to Jungle Jim’s is a great chance to get a great deal of shopping done.
