Brain fitness helps older adults keep living well at Marjorie P. LeeWe keep track of common attitudes on aging and the requirements older adults have for a life-enriching retirement community so that we can provide a retirement living experience that goes above and beyond the expectations. We know that most adults are concerned about losing independence and mental abilities as they get older.

And we face these concerns head on—and you can see the difference it makes.

The residents at Marjorie P. Lee are some of the sharpest and most independent you’ll find in any senior living community. That’s because we provide the opportunities and equipment that older adults need to promote brain fitness, intellectual strength and acuity.

In an earlier blog we provided a list of 5 simple steps to promote brain fitness. Today we’re spotlighting an innovative program that has helped promote wellness in our retirement community.

Brain fitness is an important step on the road to total wellness, and older adults at Marjorie P. Lee have been staying sharp with the help of Dakim's software.

This brain fitness program, designed for senior living, is clinically proven to enhance mental capabilities in active adults over 60. With just 20 minutes a day on the system, teasing your brain with fun and engaging exercises, you’ll see marked improvement in memory, focus, and concentration. Dakim BrainFitness® has helped our residents fight the threat of cognitive decline, and it can help you too.

Because the program is designed for use in senior living communities, the display is easy for anyone to read and use.

Dakim utilizes large fonts that are easy to read, provides straightforward instructions, and gives plenty of positive feedback in order to create formatting and displays that won’t distract you from your brain workout. Because everything is automated, you don’t have to fuss with settings. Just sit down at the terminal, start your workout, and let the program guide you through every step.

Mental training with Dakim creates individualized programs that stretch the brain without ever becoming too hard.

The Dakim software utilizes a proprietary technology that allows the program to keep track of individual player performance during each session. Five levels of difficulty allow the software to adjust itself to meet the individualized needs of users. Dakim can help those who have complete mental faculty stay sharp and help those with mild cognitive impairment, or even dementia, fight mental decline.

The program generates a balanced and varied workout because every session is tailored to the ability of each player, guaranteeing that results are achieved in minimum time. And constant updates to the software mean that more exercises are always available.

The journey to brain fitness starts with a single step.

The Dakim program is the culmination of more than two decades of medical research that has proven the risk of cognitive decline can be reduced by up to 63% through regular, comprehensive mental exercise.

You use it, or you lose it— just like with a muscle. We understand that just as it can sometime be difficult to find the motivation to get to the gym or health center, it can likewise be tedious to exercise the brain. That’s why Marjorie P. Lee and other ERH retirement communities use Dakim which makes mental exercise as enjoyable as it is beneficial.

Dakim BrainFitness provides a mix of fun activities that offer comprehensive stimulation. While brain teasers like crossword puzzles or Sudoku only exercise a single part of the brain, Dakim trains all six essential cognitive domains in a single 20 minute session.

  • Short-term memory
  • Long-term memory
  • Language
  • Computation
  • Visuospatial orientation
  • Critical thinking

Progressively challenging levels of more than 100 different exercise formats with over 300 hours of vivid graphics, music, humor, movie clips, stories, and trivia address all six domains and make brain exercise engaging and effective.
