After a hospital stay, surgery, or life-changing injury or event there is one goal in mind: to get back to living. But sometimes you can’t just pick up where you left off. Recovery may require extensive therapy and even moving to a rehabilitation care facility for an extended period of time.
This doesn’t have to mean days of dull routine in a nursing home.
Marjorie P. Lee has established a reputation for excellence in both our nursing care and senior living experience. We want more than to see you recover. We are focused on restoring patients to health and expertly bridging the gap from hospital to home. Working with all the major hospitals in Cincinnati area, we are proud of our low 7.8 percent re-admission rate, compared to a nearly 20 percent readmission rate regionally.
Senior rehabilitation services arm older adults with the tools necessary to recover from acute illness, injury or disease progression. An assortment of on-site therapies, treatments and around-the-clock supervision keep track of your progress and better your chances of a speedy recuperation.
In Lee Gardens at Marjorie P. Lee, you or your loved one can receive a number of different therapies to help get you back on your feet and improve your quality of life.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy (PT) helps enhance mobility and quality of life by improving strength, balance, endurance, flexibility and posture. Physical therapy can maximize your ability to get around at home or out in the community so that you can get back to your routines as much as possible.
Routines vary with each individual condition and setting—whether you’re at a hospital, rehabilitation center, nursing home—but the goal is always to help you recover.
Your sessions will employ a variety of exercises and equipment to help you rebuild strength and improve your balance. At Lee Gardens, our trained therapists and wellness professionals help you establish a routine tailored to your situation and use equipment safely.
Speech-Language Pathology
Speech-language pathology addresses decline in oral functions like speaking or swallowing due to stroke, cancers, and other physical and neurological conditions.
In the course of your therapy you will likely be instructed in specific exercises to strengthen the muscles of the face, mouth and throat that are used to speak and swallow. In addition to these physical services, some speech therapy programs also provide treatment for the cognitive aspect of linguistic impairments which focus on restoring memory, sequencing, problem solving, and personal awareness or attention.
Maintaining a normal life requires communication, and social interaction. Every year speech therapy helps seniors recover the skills necessary to get on with their lives, to eat and speak and connect with others to form those meaningful relationships that enrich our lives.
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on improving your ability to fulfill daily tasks as specialized as driving and cooking or as basic as getting dressed and bathing
Occupational therapy services are available in many of the same settings as physical therapy. As with other therapies, the goal of occupational therapy is to improve function so that you can regain your independence in your own home as much as possible.
Treatment sessions may focus on posture and mobility with exercises to improve flexibility and strength, but a large part of OT is recovering lost skills or developing new strategies (like using adaptive equipment) to accomplish daily activities such as eating, dressing and bathing.
