You may recall that in February we unveiled the “Episcopal Church Home Master Plan.” Approximately every 10 years, Episcopal Retirement Services (ERS) creates a Master Plan to ensure that we’re doing everything we can to keep up with the current senior living trends and provide the best experience possible for our Louisville residents.
We put together a team of ERS and ECH leaders who worked with retirement community industry experts to determine the best course of action. This Master Plan sets our vision for the future to ensure that we become the community we are meant to be.
This new ECH Master Plan will bring a number of positive changes to our community. We will be creating more personal, smaller neighborhoods for skilled nursing to meet the needs of our residents as their care plan changes. These neighborhoods will offer private rooms as well as common areas so residents can socialize with one another.

This plan also includes an expansion for a more intimate environment for those with memory care needs who require personal care services. Our Memory Care Center of Excellence will include programs to support residents living with dementia with art, music, cognitive and physical therapies.
We will be adding personal care apartments that are larger than what we currently offer so we can provide more options for our residents. Other changes include the addition of patio homes, model homes, a clubhouse with a gathering area and wellness equipment, and a new dining venue in the administration building. These upgrades will feature modern design and the latest trends while providing our residents with additional spaces to enjoy.
These changes have been decided upon after more than a year of research with our residents’ best interests in mind. Our original facility is no longer able to sustain us and our residents’ needs moving forward, so these changes and improvements will help us continue to serve the retired Louisville community as best we can.
Due to these changes, we are not currently accepting outside admissions at this time. However, as always our current residents who develop new needs can certainly move to a different level of care such as assisted living. Someone who is currently living in our independent living community who needs personal care services will be able to make that change whenever they need it.
That being said, we are still looking to grow our team here at ECH to ensure we provide all of our residents with an excellent senior living experience — both in our current neighborhoods and in our new additions. We are looking for new staff members who are ready to help us enrich the lives of older people in the Louisville area in an innovative and spiritually-based community. ECH was named one of the “Best Places to Work” in Louisville in 2018, and our staff members have many achievements under their belts. If you or someone you know is interested in joining us here at ECH, please visit our careers page for more information.
We know that the coronavirus pandemic has caused changes, anxiety, and uncertainty throughout the world and in our Louisville community. We want to assure you that our plan to expand the ECH community in the coming years still holds strong. We believe in the Master Plan our team put together and the reasons they did so, and we will continue to move forward with it despite the pandemic. We are here to provide the highest level of care for elders in the Louisville community as we create a person-centered environment.
