ECH Team Members Recognized by LeadingAge Kentucky

Seniors and families in Louisville have long recognized that the care we provide here at Episcopal Church Home (ECH) is pretty special.

As an Episcopal Retirement Services retirement community, we believe that all older people deserve person-centered, dignified care, so we make sure that we hire only those individuals who demonstrate a passion for providing it.

Now, our efforts are once again being recognized outside of Louisville.

In October, two of our team members were honored by LeadingAge Kentucky, a statewide association that represents not-for-profit retirement communities and service programs for the elderly (including Episcopal Church Home).

Spotlighting Care Excellence in the Bluegrass

Each year, LeadingAge Kentucky honors retirement care providers and individuals in the community who are making a difference through their commitment and service to older adults.

The LeadingAge Kentucky Annual Awards “honor those who embody excellence in leadership, care, and service innovation, and who are making outstanding contributions to their communities and our field,” according to the organization’s nomination form.

Care providers may be nominated by associates, managers or administrators at any home or service that is an accredited member in good standing of LeadingAge Kentucky.

This year, Episcopal Church Home team members Amy Deacon and Hope Jantzen-Williams received LeadingAge Kentucky awards. They were presented last month at the organization’s annual awards luncheon.

Supportive Services Award: Hope Jantzen-Williams

Jantzen-Williams received LeadingAge Kentucky’s Supportive Services Award, which “recognizes the achievements of staff whose caring spirit have made a significant impact upon the lives of older adults while working for a LeadingAge Kentucky member organization.”

Jantzen-Williams won the award in the Residential Services category. Other recipients were recognized in the Environmental Services, Dietary, Medical Records, Business Office, Administrative Support, Admissions and Rehab categories.

“Hope is an exceptional employee because of her unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents,” said ECH Executive Director Beverly Edwards.

Jantzen-Williams first joined ECH in August 2007 as our Director of Residential Housing and Services. She is responsible for leading our grounds, maintenance, housekeeping, medical supplies, security, transportation and IT departments, so her job truly touches the lives of all our residents, staff and guests.

“While many may succumb to the challenges associated with having such multifaceted responsibilities,” Edwards added, “Hope’s commitment to serving our residents with excellence sets her apart from others.”

Around our team, Jantzen-Williams is known for being a kind and compassionate care leader, and for consistently demonstrating a “can do” attitude.

Nursing Excellence Award: Amy Deacon

Ask any resident or staff member in Episcopal Church Home’s Morton neighborhood, and they’ll tell you: Amy Deacon always has a smile on her face and a hand to lend.

And that’s exactly why she deserved LeadingAge Kentucky’s 2017 Nursing Excellence Award for LPNs.

Deacon joined us in 2005. It’s obvious that she takes pride in her work. She keeps up with all her tasks on shift, even though she’s always one of the first to volunteer any time another staff member needs help. She’s become a trusted mentor to many newer staff members here.

She shares a special bond with our residents, too. Deacon always greets them with a happy smile. She takes the time to get to know them and their family members, offering person-centered care that serves as an example for our whole team.

She’s a dedicated, thoughtful provider on our nursing team, and we’re very glad that her efforts have been recognized.

Could you or your loved one benefit from award-winning personal care at ECH?

Although only Jantzen-Williams and Deacon were honored with LeadingAge Kentucky Awards this year, all of us work at here because we share their passion for giving excellent care to our elders, for ensuring our residents’ happiness, and for helping Kentucky’s seniors to “live well into the future.”
