So Much to Do: Deupree House’s Activity Calendar

Written by ERS Marketing Team | Fri, Aug 22, 2025

Life is as sweet as a box of chocolates at Deupree House, a premier retirement community in Cincinnati’s Hyde Park neighborhood.

Any given week, residents can choose a number of activities to enrich their lives and share experiences with their neighbors. From group fitness classes to cocktail parties and hobby clubs, there is something for everyone at Deupree House.

Anna Honerlaw, the director of life enrichment at Deupree House, is tasked with organizing and scheduling events, sometimes enlisting the help of co-workers and residents to add to the other offerings. There’s such a wealth of activities in a particular week or month, “Many people compare it to a cruise ship,” Anna said. Here are some of the popular resident events happening at Deupree House.

Game Night

Residents at Deupree love to gather for game night, typically held once a week. Popular games include Kings Go Wild and various bridge games. There’s some healthy competition among residents, but they describe it as always being good fun. Even outside of game night, residents often play games in the common areas with neighbors and friends, too.

Knitting

Two residents who started the ongoing event thought it would be fun to gather with others to knit or create other fabric works, such as crochet. Some have brought sewing machines to make a quilt. The conversation may be even more enjoyable than the hobbies.

Poker

On the topic of games, Five-Card Draw poker is a popular choice at Deupree. Like game night, poker is typically held about once a week. Similar to all the events at Deupree, many say poker and game nights are a great way to meet new people.

Bus to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra

Residents buy their own tickets to the internationally acclaimed Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and Deupree House supplies door-to-door transportation so they can travel with friends and avoid the inconvenience of driving and finding parking spaces.

“Many people tell me one of the reasons they moved to Deupree is the transportation to the symphony, ballet, and Linton Chamber Music Series,” Anna said.  “It is so nice to continue the tradition of attending the arts without the headaches of parking and nighttime driving.”

Knitting Club

Transportation to Favorite Local Spots

Deupree House provides transportation to many popular shopping destinations, such as Hyde Park Plaza, Kenwood Towne Center, Trader Joe’s, Rookwood, and The Fresh Market. Some take the opportunity to visit Kroger, while others have their hair done at a salon. The buses are ideal for individuals who no longer drive or prefer not to, yet still wish to engage in their shopping and other activities.
