Spring_DH.jpgSpring’s coming in like a lion, and there promises to be a flurry of activity here at Deupree House retirement community this month. Let’s take a look at all the goings-on Cincinnati seniors will enjoy in March!

 

Wednesday, March 1

1 p.m.

Worship service. We’ll hold Ash Wednesday service this afternoon in the Chapel.

3 p.m.

Artist reception. Come meet artist Joanne Honschopp, whose work will be featured in this month’s exhibit in the Dining Room.

7:30 p.m.

Lecture. Tonight, in the Event Center, we’ll welcome Peter Bhatia, Editor and Vice President of the Cincinnati Enquirer and Ohio editor for the USA TODAY network, who will talk with us about “Newspapers, the Media and the Election.”

 

Thursday, March 2

Duplicate bridge. Grab your partner and come play a few hands with us. We play every Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Club Room.

7:15 p.m.

Group outing. Tonight, we’ll attend the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Mainstage Series performance of the musical Mack and Mabel.

 

Friday, March 3

6 p.m.

Computer assistance. Held every Friday evening from 6 to 10 p.m.; check the schedule for available spots. You may schedule an appointment with our volunteer, Ricardo, more than once a month. Please do not sign up for an additional session more than 24 hours in advance of an open time slot and do not schedule an appointment after 10 p.m.. In addition to helping you with your computer issues, Ricardo is also knowledgeable about the iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, Kindle, Nook and other mobile devices.

 

Saturday, March 4

1:15 p.m.

Group outing. This afternoon, we’ll take in the Ensemble Theatre’s dramatic performance of When We Were Young and Unafraid, Sarah Treem’s powerful new play that takes us inside an underground women’s shelter in the early 1970s.

7:15 p.m.

Group outing. Tonight, we’ll listen to Louis Langrée conduct the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO), playing Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, featuring a dual piano Mozart concerto by the Labèque sisters.

7:30 p.m.

Movie night. Join us in the Event Center for Saturday Cinema! Tonight, we’ll watch Moonstruck, director Norman Jewison’s romantic 1987 comedy, starring Cher, Nicolas Cage and Olympia Dukakis.

 

Sunday, March 5

1:45 p.m.

Group outing. Join us as we attend this afternoon’s performance by the Cincinnati Boychoir.

2:30 p.m.

Group outing. Another group of Deupree House residents will attend the Knox Music Series. This afternoon, the Knox Church choir will perform Schubert’s Mass in A-Flat Major and excerpts from Mozart’s Vespers K. 339. Guest artist Mark Ostoich will play Street’s Oboe Concerto.

 

Monday, March 6

Noon

FROSH Newcomers Group meeting. A big move like the one to Deupree can sometimes make one feel like a freshman again! Join us for FROSH — our newcomers group — to get to know other residents a little better and share some laughs and conversation.

We meet in the Private Dining Room from 12-1:30 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month. If you wish to have lunch, you may order from Grille 39, or bring your own. Art class. Join us in the studio for copper enameling lessons with our volunteer instructor, Jaime.

3 p.m.

Trivia Tuesday. Gather your teammates and come make new friends! We play trivia in the Conference Room every first and third Tuesday.

7:30 p.m.

Concert. The South Bank String Quartet, quartet in residence at the Northern Kentucky School of Music of Immanuel UMC, will regale us with a performance tonight in the Event Center.

*Be sure to turn in $7 to Life Enrichment by today if you plan to attend this month’s Sip ‘n’ Sup dinner on March 12.

Group outing. Come watch a simulcast theater performance of the Met Opera!

Group outing. Tonight, we’ll listen to the CSO’s performance of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

7:30 p.m.

Movie night. Join us in the Event Center for another installment of Saturday Cinema! Tonight, we’ll watch director Ken Kwapis’ 2015 adventure comedy A Walk in the Woods, starring Robert Redford, Nick Nolte and Emma Thompson.

Sip ‘n’ Sup fundraiser dinner. Our popular dinner event returns! The menu this month will include corned beef, fondue and a surprise dish by Nancy McOwen.

Wednesday, March 15

St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Join us this evening in the Event Center, where Queen City Songbirds will be return to present a St. Patrick’s Day program.

Cocktail party. Join us in the Club Room for an aperitif and meet your Deupree House neighbors.

 

Friday, March 17

7:15 p.m.

Group outing. We’ll see the Cincinnati Ballet’s performance, Bold Moves, featuring two exhilarating dances that will boldly explore innovation and defy traditional expectations of ballet.

9:30 a.m.

Group shopping trip. This morning, we’ll bus down to Cincinnati’s famous Findlay Market, where residents can procure the perfect ingredients for their culinary adventures.

7:30 p.m.

Movie night. Join us in the Event Center for more Saturday Cinema! Tonight, we’ll watch the 1967 musical comedy classic, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, directed by David Swift and starring Robert Morse, Michele Lee and “America’s first teen heartthrob,” Rudy Vallée.

Dinner outing. Tonight, we’ll dine at Hyde Park’s new Korean bistro and sushi bar, 3501 Seoul.

 

Tuesday, March 21

7:30 p.m.

Lecture. Cincinnati Public Schools Deputy Superintendent Laura Mitchell and Assistant Superintendent Cheryl Broadnax will give us a presentation about the Preschool Promise and about what CPS is doing to prepare children for graduation and beyond.

 

Wednesday, March 22

10:30 a.m.

Group outing. Join us on a free walking tour of downtown Cincinnati’s historic Carew Tower and Omni Netherland Plaza. You will get to learn more about the original Art Deco decor, including rare Brazilian rosewood paneling, two-story ceiling murals and German silver-nickel at this registered National Historic Landmark. Following our tour, we will dine at The Grille at Palm Court, in the Cincinnati Hilton.

NOTE: Life Enrichment will pay for everyone’s meals up front, but you will be asked to repay with a check or cash within a week.

4 p.m.

Great Decisions group. We’ll meet this afternoon in the Private Dining Room.

Bingo night. Come join us in the Event Center for everyone’s favorite game!

Movie night. Join us in the Event Center for the last March installment of Saturday Cinema. Tonight, we’ll watch director Ron Howard’s 2016 action movie, Inferno, starring Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones and Irrfan Khan. Based on a Dan Brown novel.

Group outing. This afternoon, some of us will attend a benefit organ music performance for the Church of the Redeemer. Suggested donation: $10.

2:15 p.m.

Group outing. Another group of Deupree House residents will attend this afternoon’s Xavier Swing Series jazz performance, featuring renowned pianist and two-time Grammy nominee Bill Charlap.

3:15 p.m.

Group outing. Still another group of residents will attend this afternoon’s Linton Chamber Music Series performance.

 

Monday, March 27

4 p.m.

Resident Council meeting. Our monthly gathering takes place this afternoon in the Event Center.

 

Tuesday, March 28

2:15 p.m.

Group outing. This afternoon, we’ll tour Episcopal Retirement Services’ recently renovated corporate headquarters. Come meet the ERS staff and enjoy light refreshments.

 

Wednesday, March 29

7:30 p.m.

Concert. Matinée Musicale is proud to bring a bassoon ensemble and a string quartet to Deupree for a special concert this evening, in the Event Center.

 

Friday, March 31

5:30 p.m.

Chet and Pete’s Annual Italian Dinner. Our semi-annual tradition! Chet Cavaliere and Pete Juszczyk will hosting their Deupree-famous Italian dinner this evening. Music will be provided by tenor John Humphries.

Bryan Reynolds is the Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations for Episcopal Retirement Services (ERS). Bryan is responsible for developing and implementing ERS' digital marketing strategy, and overseeing the website, social media outlets, audio and video content and online advertising. After originally attending The Ohio State University, he graduated from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a Bachelor of fine arts focused on electronic media. Bryan loves to share his passion for technology by assisting older adults with their computer and mobile devices. He has taught several classes within ERS communities as well as at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute run by the University of Cincinnati. He also participates on the Technology Team at ERS to help provide direction. Bryan and his wife Krista currently reside in Lebanon, Ohio with their 5 children.
